  • Ads are becoming ridiculous

The user experience is going downhill. Recently the same ad has started appearing up to 4 times on the home page, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to mute it or to indicate that it is irrelevant (no way will I ever have a reason to go to BNY Mellon). As a subscriber I expect some advertising but this is driving me to other newspapers’ apps.
  • Stop moving everything!

Lots of good about this app. But for the love of all that is good and holy can we stop moving the content up and down when ads appear and disappear? It not only makes me lose my place as I’m skimming headlines, but it also occasionally goes all wonky and just shoves me back to the top of the page. Please stop this! A static ad block as you scroll down is fine! It mirrors the look of a real newspaper and will prevent me from completely losing my mind!
  • Needs dark mode.

Your Android app has it, why not iOS?
  • Page loading issues

The text jumps around on the main page as it seemingly alternates between loading and hiding advertisements while I scroll. And, sometimes during this advertisement loading dance, the App simply crashes. It’s quite annoying.
  • Where’s the articles

I kept on seeing articles produced by the NYT on other non-NYT sites that weren’t in my app unless I searched on them. So, for curiosity’s sake I purchased a paper copy and compared it to the app. There were a large number of articles missing from my app. I’ve sent a number of emails to the NYT and I receive no response.
  • So-so quality

The notifications are useless. When I click on the notification it displays the article for a split second and then shifts to the app’s main page. A few years ago I was using this app on an android device and there was a more elegant look and feel. The way the images and text were displayed had a premium feel. The ads have to go. I’m paying a subscription which means I don’t want ads, ever. At least at home I run pihole which blocks in-app ads.

  • What Has Gone Wrong?

Recently this app has developed serious problems. It now takes forever to load or change sections. It also freezes and crashes frequently and is generally a real pain to use. I see that others are having similar problems. Why has this happened?

I’ll be scrolling down the app and it will unexpectedly jump back to the top. Very annoying.
