  • Worst news app

    By creativelylexa
Paid the $5.99 subscription for over a year, dealing with: - push notifications that, once tapped, went to a perpetually loading screen in the app - push notifications that never took you to the story the app is notifying you about - no easy way to report bugs (or contact the Chronicle) without the Apple Mail app - clicking on email newsletter links that don’t open up into the app, leaving you with a paywall on your browser (since the app subscription strangely does not include .com access??) and having to find the story equivalent - stories don’t match what’s populated on the version - the app subscription is MORE than what a digital subscription goes for? idk this whole thing is weird Don’t bother with the app, just use the mobile version of the website.
  • App doesn’t work

    By vvu340
Articles in the app load keep reloading to a blank screen making it impossible to read an article online regardless of being on wifi or cellular data. I also keep having to log into the app because it says I’ve run out of my limit despite having a digital subscription.
  • Another unusable feature

    By Aldus M
Besides no search function, frequent crashing, long loading times, poorly written and edited “comprehensive” proposition coverage, this app now provides an unusable air quality map that only shows the ocean when the user tries to magnify. The only possible explanation for this flawed app is that Chronicle management sought out the least expensive and least competent app developer available.
  • “Comprehensive voter guide”

    By AnnoyedLJD
In the 2020 election their voter guide only contains 3-5 sentences per initiative. There are like, 20 initiatives across state and local elections. How is this comprehensive? Very weak for a local paper.
  • Flickering articles are unreadable

    By newz readr
I experience poor usability with the app in that stories frequently flicker as if reloading. The article will either flicker between a blank screen and the text rapidly or continuously show a blank screen. Either way, the article is unreadable. This occurs daily, but not with every article. I’m logged into my subscription using an iPad.
  • Keeps crashing

    By yupijkh
No matter what I do it keeps crashing trying to read the e edition. It loads and I start reading and then it starts this loop of reloading , opening and then reloads opens ,,,,
  • No Search and No Sustained Log In

    By parnassusfox2
In times of crisis such as the wildfires and Covid, it is unacceptable for app system developer to ignore basic access functionality. I love the quality of reporting for sfchron, but cannot stand the technical issues which have continued unabated for two years with this app. Can’t even seem to contact support as emails are rejected and calls are shunted to an automated system that is useless. WTH is going on with the development staff? I’ve managed development and customer service for companies like Schwab and Oracle and heads would have rolled if we ignores such basic functionality.
  • e-Edition Unusable

    By NorCalReader 2019
Switched to an all digital subscription and after receiving the “What’s New” walk-thru, suddenly the e-edition on both my phone and iPad app does not function correctly nor as advertised in the new walk-thru. I can’t single tap to read full article, page in width mode doesn’t show full page, and most frustrating at all, the top ribbon no longer disappears. I don’t know what happened, but your e-edition app is unusable. One day it works properly the next day it doesn’t. You are an award-winning newspaper and the quality of your app is shameful and embarrassing. Get it together and present a digital version of your newspaper that functions properly and one that is worthy of the news you report, written by your superlative staff of reporters and writers.
  • Something is wrong

    By Rhaspun
I paid for my subscription. But I will get a message that I’ve reached my limit of articles that I can read. This started in the past few weeks.
  • Awful update

    By jlouderb
The new update makes reading the paper like visiting one of those websites with tons of annoying ads. I read the digital version of the paper, and it used to emulate reading a paper. Now it’s just another awful ad infested website. I, cancelling my subscription and going to try something else.
