  • Audio “upgrade” is awful

    By High school hoop fan
The changes to audio are a step backward. The new system takes a lot more work to select and download stories. Even if you mark a story for the audio queue it doesn’t necessarily download, even if “available online” is turned on. And deleting the issue from the main page used to automatically delete the associated audio articles; now you have to go back and delete them manually. Can we PLEASE go back to the earlier version?
  • Good app with legacy interface, please update audio bug

    By Yakai_
The new audio interface is much better. However, there is a bug - if you download audio offline it disappears the next time you open the app. It’s annoying to download “the queue” every time I want to listen/have audio files offline. Please fix! Thanks!
  • Listening to audio is not as easy as the previous version

    By kdsezen
The selection of an article, to start, to pause, to rewind 15 seconds are not easy or possible. You need to create a playlist which takes too much time and it is messy if you move from one edition to another. It is not possible to see the text while you are driving. It is not a fire and forget type easy listening anymore. You need to hold it in your hand all the time to control what to do. They need to return back to previous version.
  • Content good App poor. Now I have to play with my phone like a teenager. Unsafe for driving!

For the price this is unacceptable!
  • Stupid mistake to download the new version

    By eachsky
I say it’s my mistake to download this new version before reading all the reviews. Listening to the articles is my favorite when taking daily commute, now it’s all gone. Please give me back the old version.
  • Audio was good, now a complete disaster

    By jtqxr
Unable to express adequately how unintuitive, confused and useless the new audio interface is. Please have someone who actually uses the app try to fix it. Just going back to how it was would be a 100% improvement.
  • Don’t get rid of this app

    By Frankzhlew
This app is marked “legacy”. Does it mean it will be phased out? The new “The Economist” doesn’t have a playlist function and is therefore unusable to a lot of people who want to listen to the articles in the gym or while driving. This app is a must have to us and don’t phase it out.
  • What a disaster (and getting worse)

    By Mark7896543
The Economist has released some good apps and some truly appalling apps - but this is the worst yet. There may be worse apps in the App Store - but I have yet to find it - and each new bugfix seems to make this App even worse.....and now there’s two apps. The ‘legacy app’ which has fixed the text size issue (previously the text size was aimed at 5 yr olds) but at the cost of the audio (You have to download stories individually - and the app really only works on- line). Then there’s the new app - which reaches new levels of incompetence. The audio download doesn’t work - at all - and you can no longer choose the region. Once upon a time - in 2011 to 2012 - the Economist had an app that worked. The text was legible, you could download and play audio and you could choose your region. That’s all I want - an app that works.
  • The app has gotten worse with the update

You can do a lot better
  • Downgraded audio experience

    By tstahl
It now takes twice as many taps to add a story to my playlist as before this update. Formerly: open title-only contents list, tap a check mark next to the headline to both add to playlist and download. Now: scroll through longer list of stories with pictures and sub headings, tap audio, tap add to queue. Separately I have to tap to download audio for each story. Harder to engage with audio. Please try again.
