  • Love the magazine, dislike the app

    By flykitemindfind
I literally typed the title of an article I wanted to find verbatim into the search box and it still didn’t find the The app is also clunky. There’s an arrow at the top left of the screen, and for like 99.99% of apps on the iPhone, that arrow means “go back.” But pushing it instead shows you a menu. This gets me turned around every time. My brain has to make an exception to the convention specifically for this app. It would also be great if there was a way to find articles by topic if you so choose. All in all the articles are fantastic as well as the illustrations. The app layout could use some work however.
  • So glad I subscribed

    Every day learning something new!
  • No better than the choked with annoying ads website

    By AnnoyedCrum
Practically unreadable at times from annoying ads. Not what I bargained for in a hundred dollar plus subscription. Should have tried the 12 week introductory. Oh well I won’t be resubscribing. Waste of hard earned dollars
  • Needs work to achieve that “magazine” feeling

    By ddyer0
At present this app is in some nether land between a straightnews feed and a crafted, edited magazine. All the content is there, of course, and the meta experience with links and searches is a plus; but it’s simply not a replacement for a magazine in your hands.
  • Improved, but a long way to go

    By Mario62
Finally, it remembers where you left off reading and starts up there. I’ve been waiting years for that. When I choose “copy” how about just putting the URL on the clipboard without the gratuitous vapid text before it? And when I follow a link to the new scientist web site, could it please leave me logged in so I don’t have to enter credentials every single time? Better yet, if the article is already on my device, why not open that?
  • Superb

Great app for updates our brains
  • Great Magazine, Mediocre App

    By Fogmaster
The title says it all. I really enjoy this weekly new source but at least 4 times I’ve had trouble logging in from both my iPhone and iPad and have had to call for assistance. They should write a computer science story about it. The magazine is 5 stars, the app is 3, which averages to 4.
  • It’s like the app is in a different universe

    By xoinks
App doesn’t seem to exist in the same space-time continuum as the website or the daily/weekly briefings sent by email. Can’t login to website with an app subscription (really, New Scientist???) to read articles referenced in New Scientist emails, and the search feature in the app is worse than useless-won’t find articles using the entire title of the article as the search terms, can’t search more than one issue at a time... Total garbage! Do yourself a favor and get the subscription for the web-based version.

    Magnificent !!!
  • Great way to get New Scientist except...

The app functions well enough but Google ads appear at the bottom of the screen, covering magazine content unless wi-fi is turned off. I don’t know if New Scientist is making money by agreeing to allow Google ads or if Google if doing this without permission. I can’t give a good rating on this ap since the ads cover content and there doesn’t seem to be any way of stopping them from covering content (reporting that that ad covers content does not stop the content from being covered).
